My Duty

Nothing should stop those who have been saved by His grace.

The Lord Jesus directs the life of each one according to His sovereign purposes and for His glory. As a servant of God, I must be obedient to His Great Commandment and His Great Commission.

The fact is, most will not believe, and this can discourage some believers. However, I have a word of encouragement, which is mentioned more than once in the writings of the Apostle Paul. I refer to the expression “to save some”. He uses it when speaking of the Jews in Romans 11:14 and when including the Gentiles in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23.

It is not about reaching everyone, but about “winning as many as possible” (v. 19). He then says, “I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some” (v. 22).

A necessary question arises: What did Paul mean when he wrote about “saving some”? What does it mean to be saved?

The nature we are born with cannot be saved, because it is dead and corrupt. A new nature must be implanted in us by the power of the Holy Spirit, or we cannot be saved.

Our Savior, Jesus Christ, told Nicodemus, a prominent and respected teacher:“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:3).

Jesus told this person that he needed to be born again to be saved. In truth, it does not matter much what one is, what one has, or what one knows. If you want to be saved, it is absolutely necessary to be born again.

So, what Paul meant when he wrote in Romans 11:14 about “saving some” is that these people must become new creatures in Christ Jesus, and we must not rest until we see this change produced by the Lord in them. This should be the reason to teach them all that we know about Jesus and to pray for them. Indeed, this is the purpose of our lives: that some may be regenerated—born again.

It is my prayer that you may be saved… Only through the work of the Holy Spirit will you see how wasted your life is and how horrible your future would be if you are not saved. Only through the work of God’s Spirit will you be convicted of your sins. Only through God’s work in you will you repent and come to Christ.

Only by God’s grace will you be united with Jesus, who now sits in Heaven. Only by the power of the Holy Spirit will you come to Jesus and be washed from your sins by His shed blood. Then, you will be saved.
